Application – Butt Fusion Welding Procedure
1. Material Preparation
Ensure pipes and fittings are of the same diameter, grade, and material. Any welding between different grades or materials must be tested before use.
2. Pipe Clamping
Clean pipe ends thoroughly. Secure pipes in the machine clamps with equal protrusion on both sides. Support external pipe lengths to maintain proper alignment with the machine centerline.
3. Facing (Cutting)
Use the planing tool to face both pipe ends until continuous shavings appear. Recommended shaving thickness is 0.5–1.0 mm, ensuring clean and smooth end faces.
4. Alignment
Pipe misalignment should not exceed 10% of wall thickness to prevent stress concentration at the joint.
5. Heating
Insert the heating plate once the set temperature is reached. Apply pressure until a uniform melt bead forms, then reduce pressure to allow proper heat soaking.
6. Changeover
Remove the heating plate quickly. Shorter changeover times result in stronger fusion joints.
7. Fusion Joining
Join the pipe ends under controlled pressure. Maintain pressure throughout the fusion process.
8. Cooling
Allow the joint to cool under pressure. Due to the low thermal conductivity of thermoplastics, cooling must be gradual to ensure joint strength and structural stability.
